The Rine Hotel, County Clare
Completed in 2026

The Brief
A full facelift of The Rine Hotel, a Dromoland Castle sister three-star hotel in County Clare, designed primarily for family and leisure guests seeking a clean, simple, and unfussy stay.

The Challenge
The hotel had lost some of its natural warmth and clarity over time. The aim was to return the interiors to a softer, more grounded palette rooted in nature, while improving key guest areas without making the space feel over-designed or formal.

The Approach
The swimming pool was fully renovated with new floor tiles, fresh paintwork, the removal of the old ventilation system, and the introduction of softer lighting to create a calmer atmosphere. The gym was painted in darker tones, with low, soft lighting to give the space a more focused and atmospheric feel.

The changing rooms were refreshed, while the corridors were stripped of old carpet and wallpaper to simplify and lighten the circulation spaces. In the reception and sun room, carpets and curtains were removed to bring in more natural light. The reception desk was modified, with a beautiful wall mural of The Rine in the background by Noel Donnellan, creating a stronger sense of place on arrival.

The Outcome
The result is a cleaner, lighter, and more natural hotel interior that feels appropriate for its setting and its guests. The facelift brought warmth, simplicity, and a renewed sense of calm to the hotel, while keeping the overall experience relaxed, practical, and welcoming for families and leisure visitors.
